I guess the only smart way for Apple to continue with their “thinner-and-lighter motto” for every iOS product refresh, is to get some help from their component manufacturers in reaching this goal. Just weeks away from Apple’s rumored iPhone 5 launch, along comes LG, who’s famous for building the once amazing iPhone IPS retina display, announcing yet another display launch that’s thinner and lighter than their current panels.
According to Han Sang-beom, LG Display’s CEO, LG ”just began mass production and [they] don’t expect any disruption in supplies.” His statement doesn’t boldly mention that this product is for the next-generation iPhone, but by now, we all know how secretive Apple’s suppliers can be. All he confirms is that this is a thinner and lighter display for smartphones, and since the time is right, the iPhone is our biggest bet as to where these displays are going to be.
We all know that both LG and Sharp are in charge of providing displays for Apple. It’s only a matter of time before the next Tim-note spills the beans.
